Reading

WALT: summarise by retelling my story in order.

Success Criteria:
  • I can find the beginning middle and end of the story
  • I can record the main ideas, in order
  • I use my summary to help me better understand what I read and to share my ideas.
  • I am starting to think about what might happen next

Reflection
Summarising by retelling my story in order helps me because: I tell Kerri my story and my reading needs to make sense so I can do it.

It was really hard when: I tried to sound out the words by myself.

Something that really helped me was: my stretchy cat arm. I can use other ways to work out tricky words like missing the word out and rereading, use the pictures.

Something new I learned was: there are lots of different ways to work out tricky words.

Kerri Thinks
Zoe, you can find the beginning, the middle and the end of your story and love to share your thinking about the main ideas. You think about what you have already read and make sensible predictions about what might come next. Sometimes, even though you share your thinking, you find it tricky to record your ideas in order. We'll keep on practising and you'll have it in no time!
